Perma-Pipe: Cheap on Earnings, Cash Collection Is Key

PPIH trades at 8.4× EV/EBITDA, below its listed peers. Growth and a US$42.10 model target support the case, but receivables and execution remain key risks.

Cashu Ideas · Undervalued companies · 26 October 2026

The discount is clear. The cash collection needs watching. Perma-Pipe trades below all three peers on earnings multiples, despite 24.8% trailing revenue growth. The question is whether that growth can turn into reliable earnings and cash.

The 26 October report carries a BUY research opinion. Target horizon: 26 October 2027. The target is a valuation-model reference, not a forecast or guaranteed return. All figures in USD; financials to 31 July 2026.

Cheaper than the peer group

PPIH's 8.4× EV/EBITDA and 15.6× P/E sit below each listed comparator. That supports the relative-value case, but different business mixes and earnings quality can justify different multiples.

Three things that could close the gap

  • Growth converts to profit. Q2 sales rose to US$59.57m and pretax income increased 40.6% year on year. The Ohio expansion targets US data-centre demand.
  • Orders turn into delivery. Backlog was US$142.3m in the July results, versus US$121.6m in the comparison period. The company announced more than US$28m of new North American orders on 20 October. Orders are not recognised revenue.
  • Cash keeps coming in. H1 operating cash flow improved to US$13.35m from a US$1.31m outflow. Net debt/EBITDA was 0.63× on Cashu's normalised basis.

Why the discount might persist

Collections are the main watchpoint: receivable days were 150.1 versus a peer median near 75. Receivables included US$37.9m unbilled on accepted deliverables, pending customer possession. Q2 also included a US$3.9m customer receivable write-off; H1 pretax income fell 23.5% despite the Q2 rebound.

Add cost pressure, Middle East project delays and UAE facility renewal exposure at July-end. The August US refinancing does not, by itself, resolve those UAE renewals. Cashu's 21.15% Sentiment Index also signals extremely bearish inferred order flow, not identified institutional selling.

The Cashu view

Compelling relative value, with execution still to prove. Better cash collection and sustained earnings recovery could support a re-rating. Weak conversion could keep the stock cheap. The US$42.10 target is derived from relative valuation and its trajectory, not a probability-weighted forecast. The report's 63.32% Target Index is not evidence of a takeover.
